Mantras are frequently used in Kundalini Yoga as objects of meditation. "Man" means "mind" and "tra" means to focus.
Mantras serve to bring the mind to peace, but also to transform negative thoughts, worries and fears. Sometimes mantras are used in a monotone, but often they are sung to different melodies. The music enhances the effect of the mantras.
There are several possibilities how to use a mantra
1. Set yourself on a soft mat or carpet or sit on a chair with a straight back with your feet flat on the floor.
The hands are relaxed in your lap, women with the left hand on top of the right hand, men with the right hand on top of the left. The thumb tips are touching.
Close your eyes and sing with the mantra.
Time: 11-31 min.
2. Play the mantra softly or loud in the background as you are
It will elevate and cleanse the energy of the room, where it is played.
Kundalini Yoga is very rich in spiritual music and great musicians. However on CD's mantras are often embellished with tempo changes, instrumental breaks or english or spanish parts.
This indeed makes the mantra more beautiful for listening. But it makes it difficult to use them for meditation at home or in yoga classes.
The Free Mantra Project was born to produce mantras that are beautiful, easy to sing and have a great meditative effect.
You are welcome to listen to and download the mantras, that are offered here. Additionally, in the light of Yogi Bhajan's saying "who comes with empty hands, will go with empty hands", we offer here the opportunity to empower the mantras that you use and love.
